heres some things..
halloween!
i carved thirteen pumpkins this year...
what a good looking crop. thats a 'stay cool' pumpkin in the back there...the skeleton is surfing and eating pizza. spooky!
and my T-Rex Skeleton came out pretty fun!

also...i love people that put too much time and effort into halloween fun. I'd say not doing so is a definite step in the grown-up boringness direction. and that is a step in the wrong direction. Friends' costumes were pretty awesome this year. i'd post lots of pictures, but then i'd be stealing straight from marko's superior journal and making less clever captions haha! and i'd wouldnt want to seem like no poorman's marko.
but man...how about joey's dedication and ingenuity! and also that its done totally for self-satisfaction. thats the ultimate respectable halloweener.
also very impressive:
how sweet are these!...ethan's waterworld kevin costner, steven/brian intensely creepy face switch, and doben sexy beachball! oh and tamra and jared's links (not pictured sadly. they should hang out more!) so awesome!
thing, two...sweet how many ridiculous business ventures are being cooked up right now! unemployed friends are the best. makes me yearn for days of unemployment though...this three days of work every two weeks is killing me. but i'm just holding out til one of these schemes really take off! i'm confident our "errand brothers errand service for doing errands for you" is going to explode hardcore. and if not...sketch comedy is a one way street to richtowne, right?
this is important, because i should start getting money for bad tattoos..such as: lord of the rings leaf chest foods i like and the waterworld map to dryland on my back (credit lauren)
also, this is what i will look like when i'm a dad.

oh! and i hate to talk about boring work...but man, look at this!
still life assignment last week...most kids did cute stuff along these lines:

but then one girl did this!

she's seven years old. are you kidding! total extreme natural talent. i love it. shes gonna be the sweetest.
also, i got this sweet drawing of me..

which i like mostly because i'm flatteringly skinny and have nerd hair haha!
in other areas, i hate that i haven't been getting much fun art stuff done lately though. i want to finish good things! everytime i get the chance to work on things though, i just sketch a bear with a stick in his butt.
i've drawn at least six of these that i can find haha!
maybe i should just stop fighting it and really focus on stick butt bears.
who would want a full color bearstickbutt screenprint?

welp.
as everyones writing theyre '06 reflections about character growth and theyre plans to continue '07 maturing..i figured id give it a go.
i plan on becoming alot less mature this year. (step one was to make 'a lot' one word again)
and anything i end up doing that might seem like a step in the wrong direction, just know that the true motivation is to ensure that i'll never have to be a responsible adult. like moving from my hometown, for example. that might seem like a big leap into adult life..but the key in that is exploring my options for living poorly in cheaper places so i'll never have to take a job seriously.
also, i will make more poop jokes. and perhaps more childish pranks. mostly on stee.
in other news...i'm trying my hand at wood. get it? i figure if i'm going to be able to build myself a cottage in the forest, i'll need to start somewhere. or a hobbit house in the woods with jared. so far my attempts are pretty rough around the edges, but i'll post pictures of my future woodwork if it turns out decent at all.
oh! and my website is coming along real nice. im pretty proud of the design of it! theres still a lot of content to add...mostly just the 'DESIGN' section is up, and that stuff's all just real boring and unentertaining. sorry! but i can use it to get some freelance projects here and there hopefully. and i'm gonna start putting up the fun work soon enough.

oh and im open to suggestions about stuff..what do you say?

it's christmas! i love christmas!
stee and i made a gingerbread house. real cute.

look how good we did!

also, i'm the proud father of my very first ham.

look at me. im positively glowing!
afterwards, we passed around a nice cold glass of ham for all to enjoy.

i'd like to thank lauren for allowing this ham to happen. also, for getting a livejournal which is very out of character. also, for this picture:

and this picture, whose filename is 'friends_with_benefits' which i think is really funny:

work sure is silly.
at least i made some new suggestions for the company's logo. I haven't submitted them to the president yet...but im pretty confident he'll l-u-v them.

oh and the best is that the IT guys are next to me in 'the office'..and they made the pizza whale mandatory wallpaper for the whole building. minus bosses, of course. people are pretty bummed about it too haha...lots of complaints.
also. i've gots lots of halloween photos..but so many others have been posted already! is it worthwhile to put more up?

roger!
I've been working real long and hard at sweet screenprinting setup..which im pretty into. at the same time, its been making me kinda lamey homesy, if you know what i mean. totally been chosing that over socialiting semi-often lately. which aint so cool...but! i get real excited about the prospects of being able to make sweet, professional looking prints of my stuff.
and sooo.. last night i made my first and second try at the photoemulsion deal. i totally didnt expect it to work at all...and it almost did the first time! and it did real good the second time. i was real proud of that.
but today ive been trying to make an actual print of the first color layer from it...and its not so hot. dont know how im blowing it so hard, but its coming out real chunk and ugly. which means i gotta figure out how to do it gooder...and thatd be a lot easier if i started out with something smaller and simpler. but that doesnt seem nearly as rewarding..so i might stick with hard and difficult. probably a bad idea...but i hate being a slowpoke. and i could just make this design smaller. but forget that. if something is worth doing, its worth doing poorly.
oh and the design im working on will look like this!

i think its pretty sweet.
sorry for such a technical recap post. what a waste, huh! next post will be a riddle to make up for it.
are we going to kern this weekend? i hope so!

so.
i built a big screen press in my garage for making really big prints on paper. its 48" big! and building it out of wood made me feel manly.
but.
now ive gotta work on designs for the prints. Ryan had sweet ideas about a dinosaur fighting modern beasts...super sweet. so i sketched lots of stuff. but to make it do-able on the silkscreen, it cant have any gradients...so just areas of flat color...and since its my first time, im unsure of which route to take on that.
so what are your opinions, friends?
this is the sketch:

i also did an earlier sketch of a dino vs bears..

but then for the dino vs shark one, i tried to simplify it and make it kind of more aesthetic and less drawing-y, if you know what i mean...

what do you think of this?
then i thought maybe i over simplified..so i added a little more pizazz...but i dont think i like it that much. maybe just the eyeball.

if i go the other direction...and try to make everything very clear and outlined and whatnot...it looks like these really rough versions i was playing with for the dino vs bears..

i think these look too cartoony though. is it?
i could just do something like this..

or then i was thinking maybe something more subtle and girly...like this..

i think light pastelly stuff looks sweet for posters. but maybe not in this case.
so thats the deal. what do you guys think? take a look at em all and tell me which style you think is neater. and is any of it something youd be stoked about? or should i just make something new?
what do you say.

no joey. joey is the sweetest.
fourteen reasons why...
its summer time...and friendship is in bloom.
its a tea party for two, and youre invited!
careful! contents of these boxes are fragile! but their friendship is not.
 oh, fountain boys!
will you accept these humble back-alley boquets?
 real friends have no secrets.
 peek-a-boo!
we're at the controls...of this two-man love machine.
 shhhh! we're bashful!
 peek-a-boo!
let us use this wood..to construct a solid friendship.
 choo choo!! here we cooooome!
pop-quiz! which ones are pretty flowers, and which ones are pretty friends??
 oh jomeo and rogulet!
sigh...a night well spent.

Sunday night's alright...for rock n roll!
the Lady has a show.
its at the Good Hurt in LA...and it has cocktail waitresses dressed as hot nurses!
If we get over fifteen people to come out for us, we each get two free drinks. Two lucky people will inherit my drinks! so its probably worth taking that chance, you boozehounds.
oh and if you wanna go, let me know. i'll see if i can get you in my car. its five bucks. not a bad deal.
but if you dont come, i understand. you dont like me.

okay men!
this friday night...ultimate forest war!
we're figuring at least ten boys...arm yourselves with slingshots, paintballs, and eyeprotection (if youre a pusspuss), food and water to last you til the next day, any kind of traps that wont hurt super bad...and a lust for war.
two or three teams...we'll leave friday night, head into the hills above the bridal path, and play through til dawn on saturday. if you get hit, youre dead dead dead! but you can return to your basecamp and work on fortifications until the resurrection...mormons will be comfortable with this concept.
whose up for it?
we're meeting at brian's at eight oclock friday night. if you dont know where that is, i'll take you!
anything we've left out?
**this just in...
Wal-mart has sweet slingshots for super cheap! just look in the whitetrash hunting section...
